Famous footballer Ranko Popovic has been appointed as a new head coach of FC Pune City team. The latest development in Pune’s team came just one month before the actual commencement of fourth season of Hero Indian Premier League.
Gaurav Modwel, CEO of FC Pune City, confirmed Popovic’s appointment as new head coach for FC Pune City on Monday. Speaking about Ranko, Gaurav said, “In Ranko, we have a manager with distinguished coaching career spanning 15 years.”
Praising the former soccer player, the CEO further added, “His successful stints in different leagues vastly differing in cultural environment and football ecosystem, especially in Asia, makes him very relevant for a club like ours.”
Modwel further said, “Ranko is multilingual and believes strongly in developing youth players.”
Expressing gratitude for giving a chance to mentor FC Pune City team in forthcoming season of ISL, Ranko Popovic said, “I am delighted to be joining FC Pune City.”
Popovic further added, “The people at the club, their vision and their values together with the opportunity to develop and build this team to its full potential made this an offer that was difficult to turn down. I can’t wait to get started.”
FC Pune City is going to play its first match of ISL season 4 on 22nd November this year. The team will confront with Delhi Dynamos FC at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex stadium, which is situated in Pune.
